Whether you’re driving along I-95 or I-75, there’s plenty to see along the way. For Canadians driving southward, Roadtripping Ma recommends leaving early in the morning (pre-dawn) and driving for at least ten hours. We typically drive about fifteen hours before finally stopping to sleep. Not only does this get the worst of the driving out of the way, it opens up a couple of fantastic sightseeing opportunities before finishing our drive to Florida.
Alternatively, families can stop more frequently and visit an attraction along the way for a few hours, or stop at one of America’s outlet malls to pick up some deals. Got any ideas of your own? Let us know in the comments section.
Some great places to stop for a break are:
Cities to visit
Charleston, South Carolina - My personal favourite. One of America’s most beautiful walking cities, Charleston’s georgeous homes, balmy breeze, and bustling downtown will make this a place you’ll want to visit again and again. Kids will love the awesome aquarium.
Savannah, Georgia – A thriving 18th century port city where there’s so much to see. A trolley tour is an easy way to soak in the old south feel of the place, but stay a little longer and wander some more. There are many treasures to discover.
Atlanta, Georgia - A very family-friendly city with loads to keep the kids enthralled – especially the incredible Georgia Aquarium.
Attractions to see
Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY makes for a fantastic break from the drive for baseball fans.
The Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania is a fun stop for the kids. It’ll set you a little off course, however, as it’s a few extra hours added to the I-95 route (too out of the way if you’re along I-75.)
Shopping
Best Outlet Malls - Fit in some shopping while you stretch your legs. But, better plan for a few hours’ break – these outlet malls are packed full of your favourite shops and, if you’re lucky, awesome deals. Along the Florida route, you can stop at either Premium Outlet or Prime Outlet Malls
- Jefferson, Ohio
- Gaffney, South Carolina
- St. Augustine, Florida (has both Premium Outlets and Prime Outlets)
- Calhoun, Georgia
- Monroe, Ohio
- Dawsonville, Georgia
