About

Road Tripping Ma is a blog that details the trials and joys of roadtripping with the kids.  Starting with how to prepare for the road, it will eventually cover the entire anatomy of a family road trip.   It is also a resource centre for parents planning to shun the air for open road.

All stories written are completely true accounts of my family’s experiences during our adventures on the road over the past five years.  With my husband and three young boys, I’ve driven to Florida four times as well as ventured via minivan to various other destinations such as New York, Maine, Quebec City, and Sudbury (compelled by family obligations.)  This summer we plan to roll our way out east to the Maritimes.

Following the worn tire tracks of my courageous parents who lugged us five kids across the United States and Canada in a wood panelled station wagon in search of sun, or, well, just any change from their suburban scenery, I have gleaned a new appreciation for what they went through.  Although my mother has tried to block out the more painful memories of such vacations, I manage to coax them out of her every once in a while when I need to fill in the blanks of my own childhood stash of mental photographs.

In an age that covets white earphones, personal laptops, and tightly scheduled lives, the potential to build a stack of shared experiences is toppling for many families.  Sometimes the best remedy has to be forced, and once the seatbelts are on and the tires are turning, there is no stopping the family journey.
